K.T.Z Food at SS2

Hi everyone!

Since my last post was on main dishes and covered on local Indian food, this post I am doing ALL ABOUT DESSERTS! Chinese desserts ftw!

Me and my three friends (Andrew, Tyng and Wei Ying) decided to become very adventurous to find desserts after their adventurous attempt to meet me after my work to have pizzeria dinner at Spaghetti Grill in Mid Valley. They waited for me to get changed and had my second round of dinner some more. LOL. (So much of a VIP I am XD )

Andrew suggested to go to SS2, Petaling Jaya to have the famous chinese/fusion style dessert by KTZ Food Restaurant.

So, off we went!

We parked along the parking bay in the area and Andrew told me the RM9.90 Korean Bento Set's restaurant is located nearby as well.

We're getting nearer! *walk walk*

And here we are! We reached KTZ quite late, about 9.30pm and the place is packed! The crowd is overwhelming! Well, at least I find having these kind of desserts as yum cha session is better than spending load for a cup of 'C' brand milkteas. (if you know what I mean.) :p
Their operating hours starts from 12pm-1am, but take a mental note that their best sellers will finish by 9pm so better be early! And they have an interesting way to display their 'sold out' menu, which I will be posting in a bit.
You can briefly see that the restaurant has a rather small inside area and it gets really packed and noisy in just minutes. We were very lucky to get an immediate spot inside, near the windows because the lady boss told us to sit in. They extended their business outside of the restaurant too, just to cater the crowd.

Decorations wise; kept simple with yellow and warm lighting; oriental inspired lamps were adorned along the whole restaurant which gives it a kick of the 1940s China Era like that. Haha.

See the crowds?
These wet tissues cost RM0.30 each. No need to use them. Just remember to bring your own tissue.

And its written on their menu. So don't be fooled that it is free when it is not.
Their menu is a little run down, so hope you guys don't mind about that.

Lets flip for choices!

There are many variants and choices you can have, from hot, to cold drinks, desserts (tong suis) and even some finger food. From the Tong Shui menu we chose Black Sesame as recommended by Andrew.

In the Sago Loh series, we picked, of course the Honey Dew Lolo/Loh and also the Mango Lolo/Loh. I don't know why mango has to be more expensive than honey dew by RM0.60 but I guess their mangoes are of premium quality, as tasted. The honey dew tasted bland, and not sweet.

Some of the finger food you can choose to compliment your desserts as well.

"Gimme the desserts already!" (picture taken by Tyng. Those are my fingers. Hahaha)
Fine, I will await for the desserts patiently. *grumble grumble*

Voila! Here comes the first two desserts, mainly from the hot series. On the left, it is called Mak Chuk, where it consists of oats and the version varies from different places. This one I tried was not too thick, the sweetness was alright but I have tasted a more gooey and warm and flavorful compared to this Mak Chuk, just down my house. LOL. The black sesame is good on the contrary, very fine bits of sesame, carefully grind to perfection and into the mouth where it melts. Both desserts are best served and eaten while hot, or really warm to get the authentic taste of it.

Closer look on the black sesame dessert

Makes me go all hungry now. T.T
Next up! The other two desserts! This time it is the cold series. Introducing Mango Lolo and Honeydew Lolo. I'll start off with Mango Lolo. I guess the price has managed to live up to the quality of the mangoes used in this dessert as it is sweet and soft and not too mushy. Although I may prefer my mangoes to be a little more sour side, but this sweet mango concoction is good to compliment the overall sweet taste. Don't be deceived by its overflowing juice at the top with the mango sauce, sago and also chunks of mangoes adorned on the sides, it is in fact just shaved ice beneath it all. But not to worry (as I did), there's more to the delicious sweetness at the bottom of the bowl so don't feel cheated too early. :p As for the Honey Dew Lolo, it was a rather disappointment trail of hope to me as I had looked forward to taste a really good honeydew lolo ever since I got back from Teluk Intan. The honey dew used was bland and not sweet at all, like the fruit is not fully ripe despite its heavy liquified body mass. The milk used was not too great either, making the whole lolo tasted rather, normal. :/ Sadly, I do not recommend this. Although I may have tasted a little more flavor at the end of the dessert, it does not change the fact the honey dew they used was not as good as the mangoes. Precisely as how I would have stated earlier because of its more expensive range amongst the lolos in the menu.

Notice the gooey-goodness of the mango lolo
Cherry at the top. Not sure why they'd use a cherry to compliment with honey dew but at least it is a good color sighting among the pale green on the lolo
Remember I told you about their interesting way of displaying their sold outs? Here it is. Within an hour the whiteboard has added a few more sold outs from their menu list. So better come early, not too late for a supper dessert
The interior gives it a nice oriental touch, but in overall wise the decoration is just a pass. *sorry Andrew. Caught your face in motion ;D*
The place does not offer wi-fi so don't bother checking in here unless you have data plans, which most people would have. (Rich people. Meh. :p)

All in all, I'd give the place a rather good rating lah, minus on some of the dishes in their menu and the crazy crowd fanatic over this restaurant.

The restaurant charges 6% tax for every dish and you have to make your payment at the cashier as seen at the last picture.

You can check out the place yourself and perhaps if you're hardworking enough you could let me know too!

Teluk Intan-Ipoh x AJNH (Day 3) Part 1

Good day. This will be final post Part 1 on my trip to TI and Ipoh where I will be covering on a few places on chicken taugeh with hor fun, dim sum delicacies and more white coffee, and comparison between two tau foo far stalls. You'd be surprised how exploited Funny Mountain is now, I was disappointed with their quantity control but I guess that's what happens to a blooming business where profit comes first. But I will only be covering on the chicken taugeh on this post as I am having difficulties managing my post with pictures for Nam Heong Restaurant and two Tau Foo Far stalls.

To this post;
On the 2nd night in Ipoh, my family and I decided to go to the Cowan Street Restaurant for dinner for the 2nd time after trying our luck on different places in Ipoh for some Ipoh famous food. We almost stopped at a food court and even sat on it but we left because there was nothing special to it and many shops were closed. All I saw were people eating hokkien mee in one particular stall, perhaps that's the only stall that seemed appetizing for the people.

This was the food court I was saying. Its called Pusat Makanan Skyway. It looked sad with very few stalls opened that night so we left.

Overall view from outside on the foodcourt.
We left the food court and came to Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken and Keow Teow Restaurant. It only opens at night and you can start coming in at 6pm. I came to this restaurant a year ago with my dad and brother and the overall food cost us almost RM15 per person, which I think was extremely pricy! I came back again this year to see if they have changed. Looks like it never changed. This is the 'leong sui'. Seriously, it is so tasteless that you'd think it is a tea with sugar. This I think costs RM1.50 per cup. Not worth.

Braised Chicken Feet. This is my first time trying this dish since last year and despite its really horrible food presentation, the taste is actually nice, with creamy and thick textured sauce and the bones are soft enough to suck the chicken essence from it. Good low long fire can only create this taste. However, the upper legs are very sad looking and very little meat, so I'd suggest to eat more of the toes.

This taugeh dish is alright; the pepper is a little too heavy and too much for my take but overall taste is crunchy and juciy. This taugeh looked small compared to the ones I've tried before.

Aah. The chicken. Everything is good, except it is served cold. And cold I mean, the chicken were hung on the stall and the wind blew it until sejuk. Lol. Always always eat chicken hot or warm served.

View from the inside. The restaurant isn't all that big so you might queue to get a seat. I know for sure that I had to queue last year for a seat in this restaurant. My family and I got lucky this time. Maybe its because we only came to the restaurant at about 9pm.

The signboard. Overall we have spent about RM60 for four people, so it means that in average division that per person can cost up to RM15 for a meal here. Even the Malacca chicken rice balls meal doesn't cost this much. The most expensive I ate was about RM10 per person.

This keow teow soup is baaadd. The soup tasted like it was being reused for boiling the mee for so many times that it has that rubber-ish, keow teow taste. And I mean not the good keow teow taste. So much for recycling the soup. :/

The side view of the operating stall for the restaurant. This is where they do the chicken and the mee. Its something like any other hawker stall chicken rice style and if you get what I mean by the wind blew the chicken while hanging, this is the way. Lol

All in all, to me this restaurant isn't all that hoo-ha lah, despite seeing the similar quality since last year has not changed and the presentation of food is just.. :/ I still don't understand why so many people would go to a restaurant which isn't that great and would extend great lengths of queuing just to savor it? And I don't mean just this restaurant. There are many restaurants that have such good luck in them that customers just kept coming to them. This is my 2nd time and hopefully won't be a third time, until I see a better restaurant than this in Ipoh.
Take note that this restaurant do not serve rice as their main course, purely on keow teow soup or dry style.

However, if you wish to go;

Cowan Street Chicken Taugeh and Keow Teow Restaurant
44, Jalan Raja Ekram, 30450 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia

Opens only at night, 5-6pm onwards.

P.s: My Part 2 post on my last day in Ipoh will be covering on Nam Heong Restaurant and also the best Tau Foo Far stall(s) you can find in Ipoh.

Klang Curry Mee and Steamed Lala

Mmmh! What better meal for a cold weather like this to sip on hot, hot food? For curry mee lovers, this post I dedicate to you.

The last weekend I managed to go back to Klang (my second home) for a reunion with my good friend's sister. Although the time spent was cut short with me exploring Klang in just one day-one night trip, but I managed to grab the opportunity to see Setia City Mall in Setia Alam for the first time. Gawd, I love that place. it has every damn shops I want to shop. This shopping mall is my most complete sanctuary of shopping haven. Someone please bring me there again!

Aside of my obsession for shopping spree (always in the mood if I see something cheap, good and nice), I had my dinner as suggested by my dear friend to have curry mee and steamed lala.
Now, that is something new I hear for Klang food, aside from seafood and dry bak kut teh.

Situated in the Klang city (I think Klang City is a very busy place, especially in the afternoon, at night only you can see 'worker's roaming around for some extra service in the alleys where I'd make silly jokes with my friend if we'd pop their boobies with needles. Gawd. I know. I'm bad. My bad. :p). What I realised about Klang too is that they may have a street or few streets that remind me of Jalan Ampang and Brickfields. Like Little India. Lotsa stuffs going around. Wonder if they have indian banana leaf rice too? :D

Restoran Tsy. Reminds me of Psy. LOL. Wonder if this shop is managed by him, or his brother. Or if he has a brother :p

Photobomb fingers by my friend.

Curry mee for four! Actually this is a medium. You can call for a large one, which I think can fit for 4-5 people. Medium here looks big but there are three big eaters and one small eater so to me I wasn't feeling all that full that night. xD

You have to try this curry. This curry got me sweat face all over! Its spicy, creamy, powdery, hot and everything curry spicy thing going on! I was not a spicy and hot fan few years ago but I opened up to chillies, tom yam, curry and such in time to build up my spice taste buds for more exciting food tasting. Talk about food adventure! All for you readers! Muahaha! Its hard at first because I'd find spicy food so spicy to the extend that I could not breathe properly and once, I accidentally chewed on chilli padi, boy I could not feel my tongue for a good 30minutes. So numb! But now okay lah. Sweat banyak. I got laughed by my friends whom were half Thai-blooded. They're mocking my noob tolerance to spicy-ness. LOL. Oh well, gotta start somewhere ain't I? The curry mee has quite generous portion in terms of their stuffs added, mainly brinjals, long beans, prawns, tau foo pok, taugeh, pari fish, and onions.

Definitely one of the best steamed lalas I have ever tasted. I'm not really good at identifying good seafood because of my unwanted condition of not able to consume seafood, but I made this an exception. The soup/sauce/gravy is amazing. with ginger, garlic, chilli and I think they had some special wine to it and steamed to tender moist and perfection, you can't really stop eating it. The only setback on this dish was my friend's husband complained of the size of the lalas had shrunk tremendously. Also a tip given by him is that lalas must, must be eaten while they are hot and steamy. Sounds sexually explicitly wrong. Hahaha. Oh well, food is something like sex anyway. It is primary, biogenic needs, something that you need to satisfy in order to fulfill the satisfaction, otherwise, may create some uncomfortable tension. LOL. Here I go ranting about the lowest hierarchy of needs in Maslow's Theory. (This is what happens when a fashion student got excited over a marketing subject.)

Both yummy dishes for four that night.

Another shot on the steamed lalas.

They serve very fresh Carrot Milk too! Should try. If there is any sourness to it, insist on changing it immediately as the milk may have turned bad.

All in all, the cost of the overall food is about RM30, which I think was not too bad.

You can find this restaurant at;

Tsy Restaurant, Klang's Claypot Curry Mee
No.16, Jalan Goh Hock Huat, 41400, Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

I think this opens only at night and available till about 12am. I had it around 10pm that night. So much for spiciness late night supper. ;)

P.s: Take note for those afraid of cockroaches, there are some flying ones here, which got me freaked out while eating. I guess it can't be helped with our consistent mates whenever there's good food around. They call it, 'ka liu'. LOL. Just kidd.

Cheers!
