Tokyo Pasta Mario in 313@Somerset

Hi guys. Ever since I hit the maximum photo upload quota, I feel very lazy to blog because it took a longer time to complete a blog post. It has become a hassle of some sort. If you guys have any simpler photo host to recommend, please let my friends and I know. I am using Flickr and it is a pain.

Anyway this is the Singapore post which got delayed.

My family and I went to 313@Somerset and ate in this shop called Tokyo Pasta Mario. Sounds like a n arcade game no?

You can choose to sit at the counter or you can look for more tables and chairs at the back. At the back, there's a long table. That was where I sat.

Look at this HUGE plate on display. The plates on the left are the regular sizes.

I took the menu for everyone! XD On the bottom left corner, you can see the Spicy Choice and the notice that says their curry contains pork.

There is curry for everyone. You can choose the level of spiciness for your curry. There are 5 types of spicy: Normal Hot, Extra Hot, Very Hot, Super Hot, Monster Hot. All of us chose Normal Hot.

Once you order, you'll get the familiar UFO. When it blinks or flickers red, it means your dishes are ready to be collected.

fish
Fish Fillet Curry,  S$ 8.80

This is Fish Fillet Curry. It costs S$ 8.80. It was nice and all-meat. However I don't really fancy the salad dressing. The salad dressing did not taste like thousand island and was very sour for me.

chic
Chicken Katsu Curry,  S$ 9.80

The next dish is Chicken Katsu Curry. It costs S$ 9.80. The fried chicken is not oily and done just nice. Juicy meat with yummy rice! Om nom nom! The curry got salty for me after awhile but it is alright when eaten with rice and the chicken meat. There is pork inside the curry so it is not halal.

cheese
Cheese Chicken Katsu Curry,  S$ 10.80

My cousin ordered Cheese Chicken Katsu Curry. It costs S$ 10.80. When it came to the table with Chicken Katsu Curry, we could not differentiate which was with cheese. We decided to taste the meat from each dish but it both tasted the same and we could not taste the cheese! Both of the dishes tasted the same so we just chose a plate and got on with eating.

pork
Pork Katsu Curry,  S$ 9.80

The Pork Katsu Curry costs S$ 9.80. My dad said it was nice.

20121203_171933
Cheese Omelette Curry,  S$ 9.80

My sister ordered Cheese Omelette Curry. It also costs S$ 9.80. This dish has only pork meat in the curry. She finished eating all the curry on her plate.

Vegetarian Indian Banana Leaf Rice at Bakti Woodlands

Good evening everyone!

I know my timing to post such delicious meal at this hour is really tempting your taste buds and I admit I am being mean of doing this but more the reason for you to look out for this restaurant!

Can I see how many hands up for Indian Vegetarian Banana Leaf Rice?
Has any of you heard of it before?

Well, I have been a vivid fan for vegetarian banana leaf rice since back in my college years (which was only 3 and a half years to be exact!) when I was introduced by my dear noisy loud friend, Deepa (she's gonna be so famous now).

However, throughout the years, I have only tried one particular restaurant in Masjid Jamek and little do I paid attention to the other vegetarian restaurant just next door!
This time, I was introduced by my friend, Denise and I decided to bring along my partner in crime from university, Coddy to try out the difference offered by this Indian Vegetarian Restaurant.

Its called Bakti Woodlands- Pure Vegetarian
One important thing to know; they only serve their banana leaf rice ONLY during lunchtime on weekdays, from 12pm onwards. If you come any later than 2pm, you may miss out some of the side dishes as they are served finish because Indian Vegetarian Banana Leaf rice is Eat-All-You-Can concept!

In Woodlands, their banana leaf is cut into perfect round shaped to compliment the size of the metal plate and served with 8 different size dishes comprising of vegetables, potatoes, sauce, dhaals, curries and desserts. I personally think this way is served cleaner and more systematic as compared to Lashkmi Villas (that will be another restaurant I usually go to blog post). However, it losses the authenticity of eating from a pure banana leaf rice style as served in Lashkmi. The usual dishes offered in a vegetarian banana leaf rice comes with till-you-say-stop rice intake, papadam (fried cracker), some dried fried chillies, and salted mango sambal and the side dishes as mentioned above. Apologies for not remembering all of their specific names, I'll keep a note to ask and jot down next time!

One of the 8 dishes served in mini metal bowls. This is long beans served with dried chilli, carrot, and peas.

One of my likings goes to this side dish, Potato with curry leaves, onions and curry powder.

This is their version of payasam. Its supposed to be the dessert which tasted like sweet gingerish taste to it, almost similar to one of their candies. This version is something new to me as the other restaurant I tried does not have such creamy bits of texture to it like this. I think they blended the ginger, some hidden indian sweets, cinnamon, another type of spice I forgot the name and sago! I always look forward for the dessert as it gives me the final taste of the banana leaf adventure.

Sour milk, or they call it fermented cow yoghurt. Its very sour yet has the milk-ish taste to it. I am not used to it as it is too sour for my preference. Those who are not familiar with this at all may thought that this has turned bad.

Of the many variants of sauces to compliment your rice. Some may come a little sour because of the assam they put in, but usually you'll get the hang of it when you throw all of the sauces into your rice altogether! :D

I am not too familiar with this, but I am guessing this is the old cucumber (in chinese they call it 'lou kua') with clear curry sauce to it. Take note that all of their sauces do not use santan, all pure curry taste.

Also one of the curries, this is the sour type. You can see that the curry is cooked with curry leaves, carrots, onions and perhaps more condiments. Since this is a vegetarian restaurant, the materials they use are pretty similar, they mainly played on the taste and the spiciness. ;)

If you notice the fried cracker, the next companion to it is the salted, sour mango sambal. Don't, don't throw everything into your rice, before having a small taste before. I did throw half of it into my rice and Denise stopped me, 'Don't put all of that! It's really sour!'. Imagine salty and sour comes into place. A bit of mind and taste bud tingling for me. Oh btw, during this time of the hour, they DO NOT serve any other meals like mee goreng, roti canai or even teh tarik. The best way (complimentary drink) is to have it with water, which they serve on every table. You can opt for canned drinks, if you think it is too hot to handle with just water. :p

View from the inside of the shop. In case of the lower floor too packed with people (don't mess with their lunch hours), they have a second floor equipped with air-conditioner. yeap, You heard me. Air conditioned comfort while eating. :p Also, it is preferably to be eaten with hands, as the culture is to eat with hands, but my hands were dirty from traveling by train and my nails were long at the time. I'm not saying that they do not provide a wash hand area and toilet, I'm not used to eating with hands in public just yet. :p I tried before awhile back, its quite exhilarating. You'll get all messy in the end. Hehe.

All in all, my meal here cost RM7, slight dearer compared to Laskhmi Villas. The great thing is, Vegetarian Banana Leaf Rice is eat-all-you-can concept, where they serve you rice and the side dishes until your stomach can't take it anymore.

Other than that, this restaurant offers free Wi-Fi hotspot, and Uni-Fi powered too so you will expect fast speed internet checking in while eating. Password is given upon request.

In my opinion, this restaurant is definitely equipped with friendly workers serving us meals and rice every time and their command for English/Bahasa Malaysia are slight better compared to the other restaurant.
But take note; their vegetarian meals here is spicier too, than Laskhmi, which I find it a little struggle to consume but nonetheless, the authentic taste of the Northen Indian meal is definitely lived up to its expectations and I had been a satisfied half vegan for the day. :D

For easy access through public transportation (do it like me!), it is very easy to locate by just hopping into Star LRT and stop for the Masjid Jamek station. Upon leaving the station, you will see a busy two-lane road with a McDonald's at the corner lot. (McDonald's is just next to Guardian's, very easy to spot on.)
Walk past McD and you will see a junction with a traffic light and turn left. You will notice the street is filled with Indian ornaments, and just at the opposite you will see the signboard in bright lime green that says, Bakti Woodlands. :D

If you wish to have another alternatives,
Here's the address;

Bakti Woodlands
55 Leboh Ampang  50100 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

P.s: I will do a comparison post soon between Bakti Woodlands and the much talked about competitor restaurant, Lashkmi Villas. They're just next to each other! LOL.

So stay tuned!

Till then, cheers!

Cafe Barbera @ Sunway Pyramid

Every time I walked into Sunway Pyramid from my college, I always pass by this cafe but I never went in. It is because when it comes to spaghetti, not many can make it the way I like. Some taste awful, some taste wonderful. I did not go in because I was afraid that it tastes awful.

However, thank goodness it was alright!
In the middle of the room, there is a long table which looked like a meeting table for me but smaller. Above this table, there is a chandelier.

Oooooooh look at that

I tried Penne with Sausages.
Inside there are olives, capsicums, onions and chilli flakes.
I did not like it because it was spicy for me. I have a low tolerance for spicy food.
The sausages may be chipolata sausages too. Either way it made me a dragon.
It costs RM 13.90.

My sister will always order carbonara. Her dish is called Beef Carbonara. It costs RM 15.90 and she loves it. She wants to bring her other half here next time (her twin. My younger sisters are twins.)

Dad is a lasagne man. He ordered Chicken Lasagne. It costs RM 11.90. He said it was good and he would order it again when he dines here.

I usually do not take pictures of drinks because most look more or less the same but here it is.

The front glass is Ice Peach Tea and the glass at the back is Ice Lemon Tea.
Each drink costs RM 4.90

I would go back to try the carbonara next time. ;)

Update: I tried the carbonara. It is just nice, not so creamy but filling. Definitely better than Penne with Sausages for me ;)

Klang Curry Mee and Steamed Lala

Mmmh! What better meal for a cold weather like this to sip on hot, hot food? For curry mee lovers, this post I dedicate to you.

The last weekend I managed to go back to Klang (my second home) for a reunion with my good friend's sister. Although the time spent was cut short with me exploring Klang in just one day-one night trip, but I managed to grab the opportunity to see Setia City Mall in Setia Alam for the first time. Gawd, I love that place. it has every damn shops I want to shop. This shopping mall is my most complete sanctuary of shopping haven. Someone please bring me there again!

Aside of my obsession for shopping spree (always in the mood if I see something cheap, good and nice), I had my dinner as suggested by my dear friend to have curry mee and steamed lala.
Now, that is something new I hear for Klang food, aside from seafood and dry bak kut teh.

Situated in the Klang city (I think Klang City is a very busy place, especially in the afternoon, at night only you can see 'worker's roaming around for some extra service in the alleys where I'd make silly jokes with my friend if we'd pop their boobies with needles. Gawd. I know. I'm bad. My bad. :p). What I realised about Klang too is that they may have a street or few streets that remind me of Jalan Ampang and Brickfields. Like Little India. Lotsa stuffs going around. Wonder if they have indian banana leaf rice too? :D

Restoran Tsy. Reminds me of Psy. LOL. Wonder if this shop is managed by him, or his brother. Or if he has a brother :p

Photobomb fingers by my friend.

Curry mee for four! Actually this is a medium. You can call for a large one, which I think can fit for 4-5 people. Medium here looks big but there are three big eaters and one small eater so to me I wasn't feeling all that full that night. xD

You have to try this curry. This curry got me sweat face all over! Its spicy, creamy, powdery, hot and everything curry spicy thing going on! I was not a spicy and hot fan few years ago but I opened up to chillies, tom yam, curry and such in time to build up my spice taste buds for more exciting food tasting. Talk about food adventure! All for you readers! Muahaha! Its hard at first because I'd find spicy food so spicy to the extend that I could not breathe properly and once, I accidentally chewed on chilli padi, boy I could not feel my tongue for a good 30minutes. So numb! But now okay lah. Sweat banyak. I got laughed by my friends whom were half Thai-blooded. They're mocking my noob tolerance to spicy-ness. LOL. Oh well, gotta start somewhere ain't I? The curry mee has quite generous portion in terms of their stuffs added, mainly brinjals, long beans, prawns, tau foo pok, taugeh, pari fish, and onions.

Definitely one of the best steamed lalas I have ever tasted. I'm not really good at identifying good seafood because of my unwanted condition of not able to consume seafood, but I made this an exception. The soup/sauce/gravy is amazing. with ginger, garlic, chilli and I think they had some special wine to it and steamed to tender moist and perfection, you can't really stop eating it. The only setback on this dish was my friend's husband complained of the size of the lalas had shrunk tremendously. Also a tip given by him is that lalas must, must be eaten while they are hot and steamy. Sounds sexually explicitly wrong. Hahaha. Oh well, food is something like sex anyway. It is primary, biogenic needs, something that you need to satisfy in order to fulfill the satisfaction, otherwise, may create some uncomfortable tension. LOL. Here I go ranting about the lowest hierarchy of needs in Maslow's Theory. (This is what happens when a fashion student got excited over a marketing subject.)

Both yummy dishes for four that night.

Another shot on the steamed lalas.

They serve very fresh Carrot Milk too! Should try. If there is any sourness to it, insist on changing it immediately as the milk may have turned bad.

All in all, the cost of the overall food is about RM30, which I think was not too bad.

You can find this restaurant at;

Tsy Restaurant, Klang's Claypot Curry Mee
No.16, Jalan Goh Hock Huat, 41400, Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

I think this opens only at night and available till about 12am. I had it around 10pm that night. So much for spiciness late night supper. ;)

P.s: Take note for those afraid of cockroaches, there are some flying ones here, which got me freaked out while eating. I guess it can't be helped with our consistent mates whenever there's good food around. They call it, 'ka liu'. LOL. Just kidd.

Cheers!
